The Hostel

The hamlet of La Bastide, built in the XIII century by the Templar Knights, is situated in an extended valley at the foot of the Pic de Bugarach, in the heart of the “pays cathare”, the Cathar country.

Since our installation, 36 years ago, we have gradually restored the village in ruins. We welcome hikers and all lovers of nature and authenticity, for one night or longer stays.

We are part of “Accueil Paysan”, a national association for farm holidays.

Hostel Room

We have 5 guest rooms of 2, 3 and 5 beds and small dormitories of 6 and 8 beds, with the possibility to have dinner.

Our meals are prepared mainly from our own farm products, including our meat, eggs and vegetables, but also the products of nearby farms (goat cheese, honey, fruit juice). We serve good organic bread, and even local beer!

Our hostel is one of the steps of the “sentier cathare” hiking trail "the Cathar Trail," and is close to the GR36. It is the ideal accommodation for your overnight. There are also special trails to come on horseback or mountain bike. Family hikes accompanied by a donkey are also increasingly popular.

Hiking with a Donkey

We also welcome visitors on bike or car, coming for visiting the area, relax in nature or spend a holiday on the farm.

Enjoy the unspoilt, natural environment, the quiet of the mountain, and the healthy food!

From La Bastide you can go hiking in the valley or rest near our lake, visit the Gorges de Galamus and the Cathar castles, or climb the Pic de Bugarach.

For the discovery of the region there are plenty to choose from: the medieval city of Carcassonne, old castles in ruins, the abbeys of St Hilaire and Fontfroide, the prehistoric museum of Tautavel or the Dinosaurs' Museum of Espéraza, and of course the Mediterranean coast ... If you cross the Cathar country from east to west you will be surprised by the wide variety of landscapes and climates: from the scrubland plains of eastern Corbières with its Mediterranean vegetation, the meadowland of the High Corbières to the montane forests of the Pyrenees... Take a look at the pictures!

We do not accept dogs! Some of the animals on the farm attack dogs, others are scared of them. That's why, for security reasons, we unfortunately do not accept dogs. Thank you for your understanding.
